A mission to discover life, identity and the world through volunteering.

After years of studying and working as a civil engineering I discovered designing cheap supermarkets gets tedious, so I ran off to Croatia. As a socially conscious person I chose to join the European Voluntary Service (EVS) and joined a project in Istria. This blog is a chronicle of my attempts, failures, and (hopefully) successes, at community development amongst the towns and villages of northwestern Istria.

I will tell the stories and my thoughts about living in another country, discovering the local culture, customs and history; traveling through the region and making new friends. I will also track my progress as I work on community development – especially if I ever discover what it is or how to do it.

If you are interested in taking part in this journey with me then please hit follow, and I am always happy to get comments and feedback on what I write and do.

  1. Good luck with your Istrian adventures. Visiting other countries is a great opportunity to discover, learn and grow as a person. In Albania we have rakia, which is i guess similar to rakija… powerful drink to help make these adventures even more delightful 🙂

    • Thank you. I may have to pay a visit to Albania to try the rakia there, but I think even if it makes one night delightful the next day is not always so good!
